You are welcome to the website of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), the foremost human rights not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation in Nigeria. The CLO is the largest human rights and democracy national group in Nigeria with membership and offices around the country. The membership of CLO cuts across different professions: lawyers, journalists, market women, artisans, etc and offices in all the 36 States of Nigeria. The organization has more than 42,000 members.
The CLO, since its establishment, has stayed true to its mission statement, which seeks “to defend and promote human rights and democracy for a just and equitable society where citizens are conscious of their rights and empowered to defend them”. This has made the CLO to assume the challenging role of being at the vanguard of redressing human rights violations of persons by the Nigerian government, its agencies, public and private organisations and individuals.
The CLO is working tirelessly to bring about a reformed justice system in Nigeria and empowering citizens to claim their rights in their economic, social, cultural as well as civil and political rights by conducting research and production of publications on human rights issues, litigation to obtain redress for the victims of human rights violations, advocacy, education and empowerment of victims and the population in general and networking with other human rights organizations both within Nigeria and abroad.
It is our belief at the CLO that this website will place us in a better position to serve the cause of humanity in Nigeria and the world at large.
Once again, I welcome you.
Yours truly,
Uche Wisdom Durueke Esq. Acting President, CLO
